About the Workshop

Simultaneous EEG-fMRI has been available for more than three decades, yet its potential remains largely underused in epilepsy research and clinical practice. This workshop aims to re-ignite interest in this unique non-invasive multimodal method by bringing together leading experts and researchers to discuss its current value, persistent challenges, and emerging opportunities. The symposium will address the full translational pipeline—from methodological foundations to advanced clinical applications—offering participants a clear overview of what EEG-fMRI can deliver today and where the field is heading.

Date: September 9th (afternoon) & 10th (morning), 2026
Location: Athens, Greece
Following: 16th European Epilepsy Congress
What's Included:
Methodology & Clinical Sessions • Interactive Debate • Poster • Networking

Organizers

Prof. Anna Elisabetta Vaudano Prof. Anna Elisabetta Vaudano

Anna Elisabetta Vaudano is Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical, Metabolic and Neural Sciences at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, where she is also a practicing neurologist specializing in epilepsy. She completed her residency in neurology and PhD in Neuroscience at University of Rome "La Sapienza" and was a Visiting Research Fellow at University College London.

Prof. Graeme Jackson Prof. Graeme Jackson

Graeme Jackson is Clinical Director of The Florey, a neurologist at Austin Health, and Professorial Fellow of the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on advanced MR imaging in epilepsy and malformations of cortical development. As Chief Investigator of the Australian Epilepsy Project, he secured $30 million from the Australian Medical Research Future Fund in 2021.

Prof. Jean Gotman Prof. Jean Gotman

Jean Gotman is Professor Emeritus at the Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University. He pioneered automatic detection of spikes and seizures during long-term EEG monitoring and created Stellate, developing novel equipment for EEG and epilepsy monitoring worldwide. His research focuses on EEG analysis, High Frequency Oscillations, and functional imaging in epilepsy.

Prof. Paolo Federico Prof. Paolo Federico

Paolo Federico is Professor in the Departments of Clinical Neurosciences and Radiology at the University of Calgary and President of the Canadian League Against Epilepsy. He completed an Epilepsy Fellowship at the University of Melbourne and established the epilepsy imaging research program at Calgary. His research focuses on advanced neuroimaging and intracranial EEG-fMRI.

The organizers bring together expertise spanning methodological development, clinical application, and advanced research techniques in EEG-fMRI. Their combined experience covers both scalp and intracranial recordings, presurgical evaluation, and multimodal neuroimaging, providing participants with comprehensive insights into the current state and future potential of EEG-fMRI in epilepsy research and clinical practice.
